Compudopt 12-1-12

On Saturday, December 1, 2012, Thompson Elementary 3rd graders welcomed Compudopt and Southwestern Western Energy volunteers to our campus.  Compudopt came to distribute gently used computers to 57 of our 3rd grade students.  These computers were paid for and provided by one of our business partners, Southwestern Energy.  In order to be considered for a free computer, 3rd grade students were required to write a persuasive composition about why they should receive one of these computers.  Parents also had to complete an application to be submitted to Compudopt.  Compudopt selected the winning applications and compositions from those submitted by the entire 3rd grade.  There were 57 lucky 3rd graders invited to a computer orientation on Saturday where volunteers from both Southwestern Energy and Compudopt presented information on how to use the computers along with a section on Internet safety.  At the end of the session, students were given a desktop computer to take home.

Flag dedication from Congressman Gene Green, October 17, 2012

Congressman Gene Green visited Thompson Elementary on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 and presented our school with a new United State of America Flag.  This Flag is especially significant because the Flag wa flown over the United States Capitol Building on April 21, 2012.  Our students sang "God Bless America" while the new Flag was raised.  Congressman Green then answered some of the students' questions and we learned that his own children attended Thompson!
